June 2015

June 2015- Focus on phonics.

With so many of our children either already three years old or turning three this summer we  have decided to offer new challenges as part of our 'key-group times'.

The past couple of weeks have seen a focus on phonics, introducing children to letter sounds and helping them to listen out for initial sounds in words. To do this we have played small group games such as 'eye-spy' with a variety of objects, or used a robot character to help children break up words into each letter sound. The children have relished the new challenge and have been keen to share their knowledge of letters and sounds with us and the rest of their key-group.

We have also been providing structured time for the younger members of our group. We have helped children to practice listening and turn-taking through simple group games such as 'pass the bag'.

If you would like to support your child's learning at home, please do ask your key-worker who can suggest games and activities and provide resources to extend children's learning outside of the nursery.
