Picking fruit and vegetables

The children have had lots of fun outside this week, observing the fruit and vegetables growing in the greenhouse and around the garden. They enjoyed helping Sonia and Chloe picking the rhubarb ready for some crumble next week. They thought they were very big and that they looked like umbrellas.
The children liked the aroma and noticed that it ''smelt nice''. They were eager to take them in to Mary in the kitchen to cook.

The children were interested in the sweetcorn and ''wanted to water them to make them grow''. They noticed some were bigger than others and grown ups explained they were ready to be picked. They were taken into the kitchen ready for our lunch!

They have been very interested in the greenhouse and what's been growing inside. We took them for a little visit and were surprised to find some large tomatoes ready to be picked. We found a bucket and picked the ripest ones. The children noticed that some were brown and soft so we took them to the compost bin. This led to a discussion on growth and decay which the children were very engaged in.
