Getting Creative!
Following on from exploring wet and dry textures we have now been exploring and mark making with shaving foam and jelly baff. The children have enjoyed using paint brushes and rollers on the art wall; this supports their gross motor skills and gives them the opportunity to get creative and explore with their senses.
Fruity Snacks
Following on from making fruit smoothies we have been making fruit salads for our morning and afternoon snacks. We have used strawberries, grapes, blueberries, bananas, apples, oranges and melon.
The children have used "safety" knives to cut the fruit which will help to develop their fine motor skills and independence. We have also been using our judgements with quantities and counting how many bits of fruit we want in the fruit salad, this is supporting all areas of maths.
They have really enjoyed being independent and making their own snack, therefore this is now going to be something permanent so the children will always be part of preparing "Snack Café".
Construction
We have had a variety of construction activities available, including large and small wooden blocks and magnetic shapes. Playing with construction is a great way to support problem solving, maths and having their own ideas to do things; a lot of the children like to make structures for the small world people or animals and love to build tall towers to knock down!
Sorting
A very popular activity has been using the pincers to grab dried pasta, soft pom poms and our small sorting figures; they have showed enthusiasm with making patterns with them and sorting the coloured items into the coloured pots.
Green Fingers
Scott has planted a lot of seeds and plants into our garden recently and the children have been exploring the greenhouse to see what has been growing; they found a variety of different shaped leaves and that some were bigger than others. We will continue to monitor the growth of our plants and see when they are ready to harvest.
