W/B 16/5/16 & 23/5/16

The children have been acting out role play from experiences with the baby home corner; they have been making them beds, covering them with blankets, giving them their bottles, changing their nappies, feeding them food, bathing them and brushing their hair. This is a great opportunity to support their emotional development to care for others and think about how others are feeling.

We had a visit from a policeman, Trevor, and a PCSO, Kayley; they asked the children if they knew who they were and what they did, the children were very interested and vocal about the police officers. They spoke to the children about the importance of crossing the road and what the right thing to do is to stay safe.
The children enjoyed making the sound of the siren; we hope to plan another day when the police officers will bring a police van for the children to see and hear.

We have been looking at the process of growing seeds and what they need to grow and live. The children helped to plant the seeds with soil and cotton wool and made sure they were in the sun; they have enjoyed watering them with the water spray each day.

Once the cress had grown we were then able to harvest it and with adult support they were able to make their own cheese spread a cress sandwiches. This gave the children a huge amount of ownership and pleasure as they had been a part of the whole process.
