February 2015

 News from the 2-3's

Our children have been showing two strong interests this month. Some children have been exploring various containers and are learning about shape, space and measure through filling and emptying with all sorts of materials from water to coloured rice. It's a great way to spark discussion about size and introduce new words like 'more' less' 'full' and 'empty.' This kind of activity can easily be recreated at home by taking some cups, yoghurt pots or other containers into the bath at bath time!

The children are also showing a strong interest in transport. They love to ride bikes around the garden, to 'sail' the pirate ship and to push along small world buses and planes.

They also love to sing about transport with 'Wheels on the Bus' being a popular choice at songtime! This interest can also be extended at home just by 'spotting' transport that we see while out and about in the car or walking to the shops.

We will be keeping parents updated on the children's daily interests with the message board outside the inner nursery door. Don't forget to check regularly to see what your child has been busy doing here with us at nursery!
