Today we had "food and drink tasting" as our snack time.
We tried
- Rice crackers
- Olives
- Gherkins
- Lemon curd
- Coconut milk
The "Koala's" were a little more reluctant to try the different foods and most refused to try them even with a lot of adult encouragement!
Some of the things that were said by the children;
"Looks like ice cream"
"yuck"
"crispies"
Tuesday
Some of the 3 year old children watched the live stream of a cook-a-long which the "British Nutrition Foundation" put on for anyone taking part in healthy eating week. They made a "fancy tuna sandwich", this is what was said by the children;
"I like tuna, I have them in my sandwiches at home"
"Oh cucumber, I like that"
They were very engaged whilst watching the cooking and it sparked some good conversation about the foods they have at home.
Cooking
We made courgette and cheese savoury muffins, some morning children took theirs home to try and the rest of us tried them for our afternoon tea.
"It's cheese and chocolate cakes"
"It looks like cucumber"
Each day this week the "Panda's" are making some delicious banana and strawberry smoothies and have loved tasting it.
Wednesday
Thank you to the three children who brought in vegetables for our soup making this morning, they were very proud of what they had brought! :)
They demonstrated some great fine motor skills with chopping the vegetables and helping to peel them too, we felt the texture of them and sniffed to see what they smelt like;
"It smells like soup"
"I cut it, look Holly"
We gave some of the peelings to the guinea pigs, and they were very happy with this, squealing with delight.
All the children and staff were then able to try some of the delicious soup (although not all children agreed it was delicious!!)
"Oh, its yummy"
"It smells nice"
"Its bad"
"I don't like it"...."have you tried it?"....."no!"
Cook-a-long
Today we watched the live cook-a-long of homemade burgers...
"Why would you put an apple in a burger?"
"Pineapple??"
"What's a burger press?"
We hope you have enjoyed seeing how "Healthy Eating Week" is going, more feedback will be posted next week about Thursday afternoons trip to Combe Pafford and our "sports day" games!
