We've had a busy start to the summer holidays over on the 2-3's side...
Our friends who have recently turned two on the 0-2's side have now joined us and have especially enjoyed exploring their new surroundings and getting stuck into the different activities on offer on the "big side".
The layout of the room has changed slightly which has allowed our younger children to move freely in between areas, while still having plenty of room to play with the toys available.
Our painting area has been a very firm favourite over the last couple of weeks, with most, if not all children choosing to access it.
The children enjoyed experimenting with a selection of tools in order to create marks. These tools included; cotton buds, paint brushes, sponges and stamps. Over time, some children then extended their own mark-making by painting with their hands.
We've also set up our role play area within our side room and this has been of interest.
The children spent time 'cooking' with a selection of dry materials and cereals, along with plates, bowls and cutlery.
In response to the children's next steps, we later added play dough to the provision, which encouraged many of the children to extend their imaginative play by baking cakes and pizzas.
Some children have also enjoyed spending time in our construction area, using their imagination to build simple structures and towers.
Water play has been a very firm favourite in the garden over the last couple of weeks. Taken from children's interests, we added a selection of jugs and pots to invite children to practice pouring.
Many children became thoroughly engrossed in this play and spent time using the jugs to transport water to other areas of the garden.
On one particular rainy day, Sonia and Maria used some plastic guttering to create a water channel from the leaky roof guttering.
It was a big hit and the children loved collecting water in the different pots available as it flowed down the channel.
