Another busy time on the 2-3's this month, exploring a variety of activities and experiences ....
Our soft play side room proved to be a very firm favourite. With some children often choosing to play indoors, this activity was a great opportunity to support their physical skills and allow them to experiment with different ways of moving their bodies.
It also sparked some imaginative scenarios, with some children pretending to use the soft blocks as boats and bridges to help them cross the water away from 'the sharks and crocodiles'.
The children demonstrated excellent balancing abilities, using both arms stretched out to aid their balance as they moved.
Another firm favourite this week has been our porridge tuff tray. Many of our children enjoy mixing and transporting throughout their everyday play, so this activity was a great opportunity to support this. With a selection of bowls, jugs and kitchen utensils such as; spoons and whisks provided, the children were invited to make their own porridge using dry oats and water.
Our water play has also been a great opportunity to support our curious transporters. The children enjoyed using a selection of jugs and pots to pour water down the guttering and into the different sized buckets available.
Some fantastic mathematical language and vocabulary was also observed during this play...
"Oh no, my pot is empty. I need more water".
"That little bucket doesn't have enough water, it needs some more".
"I have lot's of water in my jug".
"I have more water than you. Do you want some?"
It was also lovely to see some of the children working together as a team in order to solve a problem- such as emptying the heavy bucket of water back into the large water tray.
